October Wind Conference in London

Writing in Wind Energy Update, a LinkedIn group,  Managing Director Tom Evans proposes that ex-military men and women will be in high demand for wind energy construction projects.

British, Dutch and Danish Royal Navy are just some places where the traditional military training programs contain many of the key criteria an offshore employer seeks. Thousands of hours of offshore work experience, check. Educated to a good standard of higher learning maybe even with specific electrical engineering skills sets, check. A built in sense of teamwork and respect for authority and command, check.

He invites us all to London for the 3rd annual Offshore Wind Construction, Installation and Commissioning Conference, October 4-6.

Manufacturing Focus at Siemens “Wind”

Karl-Erik Stromsta recently wrote in Recharge, the global source for renewable energy news, that German industrial giant Siemens has given wind energy its own division, separate from the company’s other renewable energy business units. This confirms the increasing importance of wind power for the future and opens more career opportunities for engineers and industry leaders.

Wind

The United States, China, Germany and Spain are today’s world leaders in wind power development, with the greatest demand coming from the United States and China.

American Wind Energy Association Launches First Step for Industry Safety Benchmarking

The AWEA Data Collection Survey for worker safety and health, created by the AWEA Health and Safety Committee, launched on April 6, 2011. Benchmarking is a critical step toward measuring and ensuring the success of any safety program. The AWEA Safety and Health Committee is implementing this data collection program to collect injury, illness and fatality data that is specific to the wind energy industry. The AWEA Health and Safety Committee prioritized various activities for 2011 and listed the injury, illness and fatality data collection survey as the highest. Through the survey, which will be based on the current OSHA 300 log, basic injury and illness data will be collected to analyze industry trends.

Wind Energy Label

In the span of one week, the announcement for the first-ever wind energy label to help consumers identify how a product is made coincided with the program’s architects being awarded the world’s most prestigious clean energy prize. Both a new initiative and a new trustmark, WindMade™ is the brainchild of Denmark-based Vestas, the largest wind power producer. Just before headlines began circulating, The Daily Beast spoke with its Senior Vice President, Morten Albaek about how the WindMade team of founding partners is set to make its swirling blue mark on the world.
